    1. I have to comment once again on how Crossfit has improved my overall fitness. Last year I ran my first half marathon without following a specific program for running. All I had been doing to get ready was Crossfit, and I had only been doing that for about two months. I wasn’t fast but I finished. Yesterday I ran the A1A Half Marathon again. Once more doing pretty much only Crossfit with a couple of longer runs thrown in over the past couple of weeks. Again, I wasn’t fast, but I improved my time by nearly TWENTY FIVE MINUTES! I can only attribute the improvement to Crossfit. Maybe next year I’ll beat Gigi. She passed me on the last mile. See you guys in a couple of days when I can walk again.

    2. mike-what was your time?

    3. 2:15:19 About 15% better than last year.

    4. Congrats Mike B,
The hardest part about training endurance athletes is forcing them to stop over training. I tell new members over and over again that you will will faster and stronger in the weight room.
Our training program works all 3 modalities including Weight Training, Basic Gymnastics, and Cardio. In doing so in a intense environment (except our Heavy Max Load Days) we are using all three metabolic pathways that provide the energy for all human action. These “metabolic engines” are known as the phosphagen (or phosphocreatine) pathway, the glycolytic pathway, and the oxidative pathway.

The first, the phosphagen, fuels the highest-powered activities, those that last less than about ten seconds.

The second pathway, the glycolytic, dominates moderate-powered activities, those that last up to several minutes.

The third pathway, the oxidative, dominates low-powered activities, those that last in excess of several minutes.

The way I put it in simple terms is its like having 3 different gears. If you are not proficient in all three gears you are as strong as your weakest link.

      -Steven
